Bromoform is primarily used as a fluid for mineral ore separation in geological tests, as a laboratory reagent, and in the electronics industry for quality assurance programs. Historically, it was also used as a solvent, in fire-resistant chemicals, and even as a sedative and cough suppressant, though these applications are less common now.

Current Uses:

Geological Testing:
Bromoform’s high density (about 3 times that of water) makes it useful for separating minerals by density in geological assays.
Laboratory Reagent:
It is used as a laboratory reagent in various applications, such as a solvent for liquid-solvent extractions.
Electronics Industry:
Bromoform is used in quality assurance programs in the electronics industry.

Bromoform is an organic compound with the chemical formula CHBr₃. It is a colorless liquid at room temperature, with a high refractive index and a very high density. Its sweet odor is similar to that of chloroform. It is one of the four haloforms, the others being fluoroform, chloroform, and iodoform. It is a brominated organic solvent. Currently its main use is as a laboratory reagent. It is very slightly soluble in water (one part bromoform in 800 parts water) and is miscible with alcohol, benzene, chloroform, ether, petroleum ether, acetone and oils.

a. Saran tentang penanganan yang aman

Kenakan pakaian pelindung. Jangan menghirup zat/campuran. Hindari terbentuknya uap/aerosol.

b. Saran tentang perlindungan terhadap kebakaran dan ledakan

Jauhkan dari nyala terbuka, permukaan panas, dan sumber penyulut.Lakukan dengan hatihati tindakan melawan lucutan statis.

c. Tindakan kebersihan

Segera ganti pakaian yang terkontaminasi. Gunakan krim pelindung kulit. Cuci tangan dan muka setelah bekerja dengan bahan tersebut. Untuk tindakan pencegahan lihat bagian 2.2 dalam SDS.

Simpan wadah tertutup rapat di tempat yang kering dan berventilasi baik. Jauhkan dari panas dan sumber api. Simpan dalam tempat terkunci atau di tempat yang hanya bisa
dimasuki oleh orang-orang yang mempunyai kualifikasi atau berwenang.
