Applications :

• Organic Synthesis:

  It acts as a mild and efficient catalyst for reactions like the Pechmann condensation (to synthesize coumarins) and the conversion of thiocarbonyls to carbonyl compounds. It’s also used in reactions like aromatic nitration, protection of carbonyl compounds, and Michael reactions. 
• Catalysis:

  Bismuth(III) nitrate pentahydrate can catalyze the oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides and is used in the synthesis of other bismuth compounds. 
• Oxidation:

  It’s an oxidant for various 4-substituted Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines. 
• Precursor for Other Compounds:

  It’s a precursor for synthesizing bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) nanoparticles and lanthanum-modified bismuth ferrite (BFO) ceramics. 
• Other Applications:

  It’s used in the preparation of Dragendorff reagent, as a TLC stain, and in the synthesis of glycosides.
