Aluminium Fluoride LR 500 gr

SKU : O-5282.0500
CAS : 7784-18-1
Formula : AlF3.Aq
Grade : Laboratory Reagent
Applications of Aluminium Fluoride:
  • Primary Aluminium Smelting (Major Use):
    • Electrolyte Additive: It is essential in the Hall-Héroult process for producing aluminium, where it acts as a flux to lower the melting point of alumina (from over 2000°C to below 1000°C).
    • Conductivity Regulator: It regulates the acidity and improves the conductivity of the electrolytic bath, reducing overall energy consumption.
  • Metallurgy and Casting:
    • Flux in Melting: Used in the treatment of aluminium in crucibles (TAC process) to improve metal quality.
    • Steel Coating: Acts as a flux in the coating of steel with aluminium by hot dipping.
  • Ceramics and Glass Manufacturing:
    • Ceramic Glazes/Enamels: Serves as a flux to improve the flow, adhesion, and chemical stability of glazes.
    • Specialty Glass: Used to produce fluoride-based glasses with excellent infrared transmission performance and to increase the opacity of ceramics.
  • Chemical Industry (Catalysis):
    • Catalyst in Organic Synthesis: Employed as a catalyst for the synthesis of organic compounds and fluorine-containing chemicals.
    • Polymer Production: Used as a catalyst or co-catalyst in the production of high-performance plastics like PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene).
  • Optical and Coating Applications:
    • Optical Coatings: Used as a low-index material for UV and infra-red (IR) anti-reflective coatings due to its transparency.
  • Other Applications:
    • Fermentation Inhibitor: Used in alcohol production as an inhibitor.
    • Battery Technology: Studied for use in artificial interphase layers for lithium-ion batteries.
LR (Laboratory Reagent) Grade Characteristics:
LR grade aluminum fluoride is typically used in chemical research, industrial R&D, and processes requiring high purity, often appearing as a white crystalline powder.

Aluminium fluoride is an inorganic compound with the formula AlF3. It forms hydrates AlF3·xH2O. Anhydrous AlF3 and its hydrates are all colorless solids. Anhydrous AlF3 is used in the production of aluminium. Several occur as minerals.Aluminium Fluoride LR (Laboratory Reagent) is a high-purity white, inorganic crystalline powder, often in hydrate form. It is used for industrial, laboratory, and research applications, such as a flux in metallurgy, in ceramic glazes, and in producing specialized chemicals.Aluminium Fluoride is an inorganic compound, primarily used as a vital additive in the metallurgical industry, particularly for reducing energy consumption during the smelting of aluminum. It is characterized as a white, crystalline, or granular solid, often supplied in high-density (HBD) or low-density (LBD) grades.
