10X TBE (Tris-Borate-EDTA) buffer is primarily used as a running buffer for nucleic acid electrophoresis, particularly for resolving small DNA and RNA fragments in agarose and polyacrylamide gels. It is also used in polyacrylamide sequencing gels and as a component in some DNA extraction methods. The borate and EDTA components help maintain a stable pH, buffer the solution, and prevent nucleic acid degradation by inactivating nucleases.

10X TBE Buffer (Tris-Borate-EDTA) Solution pH 8.3 describes a concentrated, specific solution used in molecular biology, primarily for agarose and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of nucleic acids. This is a stock solution that is 10 times more concentrated than the “working concentration” (1X) used in experiments. Before use, it must be diluted with distilled or deionized water at a 1:10 ratio. Providing a concentrate saves storage space and preparation time in the lab.
