Cobalt(II) chloride is an inorganic compound, a salt of cobalt and chlorine, with the formula CoCl₂. The compound forms several hydrates CoCl₂·nH₂O, for n = 1, 2, 6, and 9. Claims of the formation of tri- and tetrahydrates have not been confirmed. The anhydrous form is a blue crystalline solid; the dihydrate is purple and the hexahydrate is pink. Commercial samples are usually the hexahydrate, which is one of the most commonly used cobalt salts in the lab.Cobalt(II) chloride hexahydrate is a hydrated form of cobalt chloride that is used as a catalyst. It is also known as cobaltous chloride hexahydrate.The crystal unit of the solid hexahydrate CoCl₂•6H₂O contains the neutral molecule trans–CoCl₂(H₂O)₄ and two molecules of water of crystallization. This species dissolves readily in water and alcohol.The anhydrous salt is hygroscopic and the hexahydrate is deliquescent. The dihydrate, CoCl₂(H₂O)₂, is a coordination polymer. Each Co center is coordinated to four doubly bridging chloride ligands. The octahedron is completed by a pair of mutually trans aquo ligands.

Hindari pemajanan (pemaparan) – dapatkan petunjuk khusus sebelum menggunakan. Hindari pembentukan debu dan aerosol. Wadah hanya boleh dibuka di bawah sungkup
ventilasi gas-buang.Kenakan pakaian pelindung. Jangan menghirup zat/campuran.

b. Tindakan kebersihan

Segera ganti pakaian yang terkontaminasi. Gunakan krim pelindung kulit. Cuci tangan dan muka setelah bekerja dengan bahan tersebut. Untuk tindakan pencegahan lihat bagian 2.2.

a. Kondisi penyimpanan

Tertutup sangat rapat. Kering. Simpan di tempat yang berventilasi baik. Simpan dalam tempat terkunci atau di tempat yang hanya bisa dimasuki oleh orang-orang yang mempunyai kualifikasi atau berwenang.

b. Kelas penyimpanan

Kelas penyimpanan Jerman (TRGS 510): 6.1C: Kat.3 toksik akut, mudah terbakar /senyawa toksik atau senyawa yang menyebabkan efek-efek kronis.
